Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol

The church of Saint Peter of Vilaflor or Chasna is heir to a history dating back to the early 16th century, as its foundation responds to the pious wishes of Pedro Soler and Juana Padilla, his wife. These landowners, the most important in the village and the region where they lived continuously, were responsible for the erection of a first hermitage around 1530. It would not be elevated to a parish until 1568, including in its broad jurisdictional district for over two centuries a large part of the villages existing in the current municipalities of Vilaflor, Arona, San Miguel, Granadilla, and Arico. Of that first construction, few artistic testimonies have survived, although the titular effigy of Saint Peter has: an important piece of white alabaster signed on the base by the Aragonese sculptor Pedro Villar.
